Is Programming Still Fun?

I was sitting at home after work just browsing YouTube and I watched the video on Terry Davis. If you have not heard of him he is the genius programmer behind TempleOS. In an article about him (I will link here once found) the author stated that it was nice to see such genuine enthusiasm for programming because people nowadays are too serious.

I get that!

I've always said since growing up programming to me is not just a hobby or my job, but it's a lifestyle. I seriously just enjoy programming and feel it is such a beautiful art form. The text editor is our canvas and the syntax in which we choose to write software in starts to paint the picture of the program we desire. You see it come to life and exist as it once was just a thought.

I feel the past few years as programming has grown exponentially it's become the lustrous career to work towards. I see time after time people wanting shortcuts to learning a programming language to get in a career because the perks are so desirable or they want to work from home. When in fact if that is why you choose to program you will ultimately burn out. I truly feel programming is the type of hobby, career or whatever it may be that you truly have to enjoy.

I posted on X that I wanted to create a startup from the late 90's early 2000's era, because at that time I just picture the feel of groups hanging together hacking away at code enjoying building something together. Not to attempt to get rich or to only gain a career for perks. If there is one thing I could try to instill in someone in someone is do it for the love and beauty of programming. If a career comes then that is fantastic!

Programming truly still is fun!
